A Trek in the Central High Atlas Between Taghia, High Passes, and the Aït Bougmez Valley
This trek in the Moroccan High Atlas takes you to the heart of Morocco's wildest and most spectacular mountains, between the Ahansal valley, the Taghia cirque, and the high plateaus of Aït Bougmez. Throughout this crossing of peaks in the High Atlas, you will cross high-altitude passes at over 3,000 meters, walk at the foot of iconic summits like Aroudane, Azurki, or M’Goun, and share the daily life of Amazigh and nomadic communities.
Alternating between mountain gîtes, bivouacs, and a stay at Touda Ecolodge, this High Atlas Morocco trek offers a complete immersion combining adventure, preserved nature, and Amazigh culture.

Flight to Marrakech. Welcome at the airport by our team, then transfer and check-in at the Riad. Meals on your own.
Accommodation: Riad
Superb vehicle transfer to the heart of the Central High Atlas via Azilal, Ighzdiss, and the Ilissi pass... Beautiful views of Jebel Aroudane and Azurki. Ascent of the Ahansal valley and arrival at the picturesque red earth village of Zaouiat Ahansal (1,600 m). Warm-up hike around the village.
Transfer: About 4 hours.
Departing from Tiranimine, we first discover the large collective granary, impressive in its size and multi-level architecture. We then continue into the superb enclosed valley of Aqqa n’Toured, following the wide mule track on its right bank to the scattered houses of Asklou.
From Asklou, the trail climbs gradually towards Tizi Agard n’Ikkis. Just before reaching the pass (2,406 m), we branch off to the right to join the ridge leading to the Isfoula lookout summit. From there, the panorama is exceptional: the Taghia cirque, the deep canyon of Aqqa n’Tazarght, and the imposing massif of Aroudane (3,359 m).After this interlude at the summit, the descent follows the same path back to the pass, before continuing quietly to the Taghia valley.

Crossing the Tizi n’Tighboula pass (3,032 m) and then arriving at M’Dinte Jdid (2,860 m).

Crossing the Tizi n’Laaz pass (2,905 m) then descending through gentle slopes of plateaus dotted with cushion brooms (in bloom from June) and pink rockroses... landscapes of great beauty! Many nomadic camps of the Aït Atta tribe are set up there with their herds of goats andcamels... An extraordinary site, surrounded by the highest peaks of this Atlas range: Le Tizal, Ouaougoulzat, Azurki, M’Goun, and Aroudane... Continuation to the shores of Lake Izourar
(2,526 m).
